Huami’s carved out a niche for itself with its well-priced, stylish range of Amazfit smartwatches and are the hands behind Xiaomi’s Mi Band – both affordable wearable alternatives if you’re looking outside the Apple ecosystem and tired of the oft neglected Wear OS. Now, Huami’s ramping up its aggressive moves in the smartwatch space with the launch of the Amazfit X on Indiegogo.
A curved titanium unibody design
The Amazfit X features a 2.07in AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, titanium alloy body, vibration feedback, and a seamless design that does away with buttons in favour of pressure sensors on the side of the watch. Huami’s promising up to 7 days of battery life for its newest wearable, which also offers 24/7 heart rate monitoring through Huami’s own BioTracker™ PPG optical sensor. But the highlight of the Amazfit X is its curved screen, which Huami says is tailor-made for a comfortable fit around the wrist.
We reckon the curved screen has another benefit. It seems to allow for more screen real estate without sacrificing comfort or making the watch too bulky. If you’re wondering how heavy it is, you’re in for a pleasant surprise: At 39g, the Amazfit X is at the lighter end for smartwatches. A word of caution, though: the Amazfit X is more like a premium fitness tracker, and has pretty much nearly everything you’d need, but it’ll fall short if you’re expecting something as powerful as the (much-pricier) Apple Watch.
For the fitness enthusiast as well
Design mavens should also love how the Amazfit X looks like absolutely nothing else on the market, but it’s also got enough to draw the fitness enthusiast away from the pricier competition: It’s swim proof (water resistant to 50m), offers blood oxygen monitoring, sleep tracking, multi-sport modes (including swim tracking), and offers Huami’s Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI) fitness score, a gamification technique that uses a points system to offer feedback and guidance.
The Huami Amazfit X is priced at USD149 (early bird pricing) and is available in two variants – Eclipse Black and New Moon Gold. According to Huami’s Indiegogo listing, shipping (free globally) is expected to start in August.
