If you’re looking for a new tablet to help alleviate lockdown-induced boredom, here’s some news you’ll like: Amazon has launched three new Fire tablets (including a kids’ variant), all of which fall around the $100 price point.
The base variant, the all-new Fire HD 8 has an 8” 1280 x 800 display, a new quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB or 64GB storage, a microSD slot, and is available in 4 colours – White, Black, Twilight Blue, and Plum. Amazon’s also upgraded the charging / data port to USB Type-C, with a full charge (which it says is good enough for 12 hours of mixed use) taking 5 hours. The 32GB variant slips under the $100 mark – at US$89.99 – while the 64GB variant will run you US$119.99.
The Fire HD 8 32GB variant is also being made available as the Fire HD 8 Kids Edition (US$139.99) – this adds a colorful ‘kid-proof case’ (blue, pink, or purple) with a built-in stand and a year’s subscription to Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, which gives access to over 20,000 apps, books, games, and video content for children.
The Fire HD Plus bumps the RAM up to 3GB, adds a 9W fast charging adapter and a 6-month subscription to Kindle Unlimited. Only one color variant is available (Slate), but you can choose between 32GB (US$109.99) and 64GB versions (US$139.99). Pay another US$30, and Amazon will throw in a wireless charging dock.
The new Fire HD tablets are now up for pre-order, with shipments beginning June 3. Amazon is also offering discounts if you pick up multiple units, so if you want to pick up a tablet for every member of your family, this is your chance!
