Everything You Need to Know About MIUI 12, Xiaomi’s Newest OS

Xiaomi phone owners, behold!

The flagship has finally announced the launch of MIUI 12, the newest operating system that will power its mobile phones.

MIUI 12: Newest Features and Improvements

The long-anticipated OS is expected to bring important changes and tweaks to improve user-efficiency as well as increase the appeal of the phone to its customers.

With the launch of MIUI 12, Xiaomi users will be able to experience the ‘app drawer’ feature, which will put the newly downloaded apps into a separate ‘drawer‘ instead of the homepage. Initially, all the new apps were lined up on the homepage that was proving to be inconvenient for users.

However, this isn’t an imposition.

The ‘app drawer’ feature is one of the two layout choices available to the user. You can stick with the option that you prefer the most.

The other improvements include dark mode 2.0, floating app windows, live Super Wallpapers of Earth and Mars, improved health tracking, and several other privacy features.

While the floating app windows enable quick multitasking, the new ‘Ultra Battery Saving Mode‘ is the more efficient version of the traditional battery mode. It’ll shut down other unnecessary features other than calls, text, and network connectivity.

So, if you only have a 5% charge left, activating this feature will increase the battery lasting for up to five hours rather than the one-hour default.

Talking about the security boost, Xiaomi has taken the necessary steps to make MIUI 12 more secure than its predecessor. The newest OS gives you the option to choose whether or not you would like to submit your location data, camera access, and microphone access to the app.

The MIUI 11, on the other hand, only seeks permission for location data.

MIUI 12: Release Date and Availability

Although there are plans for phones to support MIUI 12 on a model-by-model basis, the first phones that will support the OS will be Xiaomi Mi 10, Xiaomi Mi Note 10, Poco F2 Pro, and the Redmi Note 9 series.

Whether the older phones or the more budget-friendly Redmi variations will get the update still remains unclear.

According to Xiaomi, you can expect the MIUI 12-compatible mobile phones to be available ‘within weeks’ from the mid-19th launch event. This means that a mid-June availability is a strong possibility.
