Sega’s celebrating its 60th birthday in style – by launching a collection of handheld games that should really appeal to collectors and nostalgia hounds. Dubbed Game Gear Micro, the handheld consoles hark back to the 8-bit era and will be available in four colours – each of which will be preloaded with four different old-school titles. The ‘consoles’, which fittingly enough look like miniature versions of the Game Gear handheld console (and also arrive 30 years after Sega launched its only handheld console), have a 240×180 1.15 inch display and run off AAA batteries. Sega is also bundling a special ‘micro’ version of the Big Window magnifying accessory for the Game Gear – we’d recommend you get this as the tiny screen could be a bit tiring otherwise.
As for the games bundled alongside, the black version gets Sonic the Hedgehog, Puyo Puyo, Outrun, and Royal Stone; the blue version gets Sonic & Tails, Baku Baku Animal, Sylvan Tales, and Gunstar Heroes; the red gets Megami Tensei Gaiden Last Bible, Megami Tensei Gaiden Last Bible Special, The GG Shinobi, and Columns; while the yellow Game Gear Micro gets Shining Force Gaiden, Shining Force Gaiden II, Shining Force Gaiden Final Conflict, and Nazopuyo Aruru no Roux. The Game Gear Micro consoles are priced at ¥5478 (around $50), and are now up for preorder on Amazon Japan and Rakuten.
