125 Yacht NFTs Went On Sale at Miami Boat Show 2022

Always wanted to own your own yacht? Now you can. Well, at least, in the metaverse.

Cloud Yachts, a digital yacht dealer, partnered with some of the world’s top superyacht designers to release NFT art collections. A limited series of 125 NFTs were released at the Miami Boat Show from Feb. 16-20, 2022. Owners have VIP access to exclusive events in the superyacht community, including yacht shows and superyacht parties.

Showing Off Yacht NFTs in the Metaverse

This collection of yacht NFTs is taking the metaverse to the next level. One special NFT project, designed by award-winning naval architect Gregory Marshall, was based off of a superyacht priced at US$95 million, or 30,148 ETH. The winning bidder will be able to customize this superyacht in the metaverse using next-level augmented reality technology.

In November 2021, the luxury NFT called Metaflower Super Mega Yacht was sold for over US$650,000. It featured two helipads, hot tubs, and even a DJ booth. The NFT was designed for The Sandbox, a virtual Metaverse where players can play, build, own, and monetize their virtual experiences. Just this past week, luxury brand Gucci bought a piece of land in The Sandbox as a precursor to future branded experiences in the metaverse.

Pros and Cons of Metaverse Yachts

Considering the uniqueness of each NFT, it’s not surprising that someone started to make NFTs out of yachts. After all, yachts themselves connote an air of exclusivity as only the super-rich can afford them, with annual maintenance costs running in the millions of dollars.

The upside with yacht NFTs, however, is that they don’t have such maintenance costs in the metaverse. But there is a challenge in finding enough people to host a yacht party. After all, what’s the fun in owning a yacht if you don’t have enough metaverse friends to join you?

Cloud Yachts was founded by Zach Mandelstein in Silicon Valley to be the first digital yacht dealer in the metaverse. The company has already partnered with leaders in the yachting industry, including Boat International, Informa Markets and the #1 social media influencer in yachting, Alex Jimenez @TheYachtGuy.
