An almost-flagship, TVs, and a smartwatch? Realme is on a launch spree

Oppo sub-brand Realme has been on quite the product launch spree over the past couple of days. Amongst other products and accessories, they’ve come out with a line of smart TVs, an affordable smartwatch, and a new flagship phone with a periscope zoom and a 120Hz display. Here’s a quick look at the stuff that caught our eye:

An affordable smartwatch that’s coming to the EU

The Realme Watch features a square 1.4 inch display with a 320×320 resolution, 12 built-in faces (more available to download), and a choice of silicone straps (black, red, blue, green). Sports tracking features include 14 dedicated sports modes, 24×7 heart rate tracking, and a blood oxygenation meter. Other features include lift-to-wake, app notifications, phone camera shutter and music playback control, a meditation mode, as well as the ability to control Realme’s IoT products. The Realme Watch is also IP68 rated, which should be enough for casual usage even in bad weather, but swimmers will have to look elsewhere. As for battery life, Realme claims 7-to-9 days of normal usage, and up to 20 days in power saving mode.

The Realme Watch is now available in India (for ₹3999) and China, but will also be coming to the EU and UK markets – its pricing (€54.99 / £49.99) should make it amongst the cheapest wearables around.

India gets Smart TVs with Android TV

Also new for the India market is a range of budget smart TVs. Two screen sizes are on offer: a 32 inch 720p set, and a 43 inch Full HD set. Both sets boast of 400nits of peak brightness, 4-speaker 24W Dolby audio, HDR10 and HLG, Android TV, and remotes with one-key access to Google Assistant, Netflix, Prime Video, and YouTube. Both also include Bluetooth 5.0, but there’s only 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi. The 32 inch set carries a price tag of ₹12,999 ($172), while its larger sibling is priced at ₹21,999 ($291).

The Realme X3 Superzoom comes to Europe

Just a day after launching its watch and TVs (as well as a slew of other products and accessories), Realme also unveiled its newest premium phone – the X3 Superzoom. Initially available in the UK (£469) and EU (€499), the X3’s claim to fame would be the periscopic optical zoom commonly found in Oppo and Vivo’s flagships. Dubbed ‘60X Super Zoom’, this combines a 5X optical zoom with digital enhancement for what’s generally reckoned to be one of the better mobile zoom solutions out there.

For the processor, Realme has gone with the Snapdragon 855+, which might not be this year’s flagship chip, but the new 865 can only be had with 5G, and let’s admit it: Would anyone notice a performance difference??

Other bits include a 6.6 inch FHD+ 120Hz display, a dual camera array (32MP main + 8MP ultra-wide) for selfies, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage (UFS 3.0), a 4200mAh battery with 30W fast charging, and a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button.

At the rear is a four-camera array, which includes a 64MP main sensor (Samsung’s GW1), the 8MP periscope lens, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro lens. Video recording goes up to 4K at 60 frames per second, and the cameras also include a host of AI features and scene optimizations (including a star mode and a Super Nightscape night mode).

The Realme X3 Superzoom is currently up for pre-order, and should ship sometime in June.
